1. Raw Material Purity and Chemical Resistance

The quality of a quartz furnace tube is fundamentally determined by the purity of the raw material. At Southeast Quartz, we utilize premium silica source materials from Donghai County. The raw quartz crystals are subjected to mechanical sorting, acid washing, and thermal treatment to remove impurities. The resulting fused silica consists of at least 99.99% silicon dioxide (SiO₂).

This ultra-high purity level is critical because trace elements like sodium (Na), potassium (K), lithium (Li), iron (Fe), and aluminum (Al) can act as dopants in semiconductor applications. Under high-temperature diffusion, these impurities can migrate into silicon wafers, causing defects and reducing wafer yields. Our tubes maintain minimal alkali metal content, preventing devitrification and extending the service life of the tube.

2. Thermal Stability and Low Coefficient of Expansion

Fused quartz has a remarkably low thermal expansion coefficient of approximately 5.5 × 10^-7 / °C. This is significantly lower than most other refractory materials or technical ceramics. This property gives quartz furnace tubes exceptional thermal shock resistance. A quartz tube can be heated to over 1100°C and then immediately plunged into cold water without structural failure.

3. Prevention of Devitrification

At temperatures above 1150°C, fused silica starts to undergo a phase transition called devitrification, converting from an amorphous state into crystalline cristobalite. Devitrification usually starts at the surface, accelerated by moisture, grease, or dust. Our advanced surface polishing, acid-etching, and dehydroxylation processes reduce surface defects and lower the hydroxyl (OH) content. This significantly delays the onset of devitrification, allowing our tubes to operate continuously at high temperatures without losing mechanical integrity or optical clarity.
